FAQs

🌿 Wholesome Box – Frequently Asked Questions

1. Ordering

How do I place an order?
All orders are placed through our website: www.getwholesomebox.com.

When is the weekly order deadline?
Orders may be placed anytime during the week, but the cutoff for each Friday pickup or delivery is Thursday at 11:59 PM.

Can I cancel or change my order?
Yes. Orders may be canceled or changed anytime before the weekly cutoff on Thursday at 11:59 PM. After the cutoff, boxes are planned, sourced, and packed specifically for each customer, so changes may not be available.

To cancel, switch from delivery to pickup, or update your order before the cutoff, please email or text us and we’ll help as soon as possible.

Refunds typically take 4–5 business days to return to your original payment method.

2. Boxes & Pricing

What box sizes do you offer?

Weekly Harvest Box
Our classic Wholesome Box experience: a generous, thoughtfully curated selection of fresh seasonal produce, well-suited for many families of around four.

Harvest Plus Box
A larger, fuller version of the Weekly Harvest Box, created for larger families, heavy produce eaters, meal-preppers, homeschool households, and busy kitchens where fresh food disappears fast.

The Harvest Plus Box includes increased quantities and a broader mix of seasonal produce to help keep a larger or produce-loving household stocked for the week. It is not intended to be double the Weekly Harvest Box, but it is designed to feel noticeably fuller, more abundant, and better suited for households that go through fresh produce quickly.

Current pricing for each box is available on its product page.

Do you still offer smaller boxes, veggie-only boxes, or fruit-only boxes?
At this time, our regular weekly offerings are the Weekly Harvest Box and the Harvest Plus Box. Other specialty boxes may be offered seasonally when availability allows.

Do you offer apple boxes?
Yes. Apple boxes are a fall seasonal offering and are available only when fresh regional apples are in season. Apple box details, sizes, and pricing will be announced separately in the fall.

Do you offer jams, preserves, or other Amish-made goods?
When available, we may bring a limited selection of Amish-made jams, preserves, and other seasonal farm goods to pickup. These items are offered separately as limited add-ons and are available first come, first served.

When we know ahead of time that we’ll be bringing extras back from the farms, we’ll usually post on our Facebook page so customers can see what’s available and comment or message to reserve items before pickup.

How much produce is inside each box?
The Weekly Harvest Box includes a generous seasonal assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables, typically around 7–10 varieties, depending on what is freshest and most abundant that week.

The Harvest Plus Box includes a larger, fuller mix with increased quantities and broader variety to help keep a larger or produce-loving household stocked for the week.

3. What’s in the Box?

Do you know what will be in upcoming boxes?
Because each box is curated around what is freshest and most abundant at the farms each week, we are unable to guarantee exact contents ahead of time.

What we can promise is a thoughtfully selected variety of fresh, seasonal produce chosen for quality, freshness, usefulness, and abundance.

Part of the Wholesome Box experience is the fun of discovering what the farms are harvesting each week and finding creative ways to bring those ingredients into your kitchen. Many of our customers enjoy the surprise of opening their box and building meals around what’s inside — almost like a fresh, seasonal cooking challenge.

Can I request substitutions?
We’re happy to accommodate a small number of simple produce aversions whenever possible, such as “no eggplant” or “no spicy peppers.”

Because each box is built around that week’s harvest, we are unable to offer fully customized boxes or guaranteed substitutions.

What kinds of produce might be included?
Boxes may include a rotating mix of seasonal favorites such as vine-ripened tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, sweet corn, summer squash, zucchini, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, beans, broccoli, leafy greens, fresh herbs, peppers, heirloom varieties, seasonal fruit, and much more throughout the growing season.

Can I share an item my family won’t use with another Wholesome Box customer?
Yes! At pickup, customers are welcome to use our community swap basket. If your family receives an item you know you won’t use, you may leave it for another customer and choose something from the basket if available.

It is a simple way to reduce waste, share abundance, and celebrate the seasonal nature of local food.

Why do box contents change each week?
Wholesome Box follows the natural rhythm of the growing season. Availability changes with the weather, harvest timing, and what each farm has ready that week. This allows us to bring you produce that is fresh, seasonal, and selected at its best — not produce forced into a preset menu.

4. Our Farms & Growing Practices

Where does your produce come from?
Our produce is sourced from Amish farm partners and small family growers in Allen County, Kentucky, just over 60 miles from our Dickson pickup location.

Each week during the growing season, we travel to the farms to hand-select fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables for our boxes. Often, the produce we source has come in from the fields the very same day customers receive their boxes.

This is one of the things that makes Wholesome Box so different: our produce is not sitting in warehouses, traveling through long supply chains, or being chosen simply because it is available out of season somewhere else.

Is all Wholesome Box produce local and seasonal?
Yes. Wholesome Box is built around fresh, seasonal produce sourced directly from our Amish farm partners and small family growers during the local growing season.

We do not build our boxes around out-of-season produce shipped in from faraway states or other countries. Our goal is to bring customers produce that is fresh, seasonal, and selected close to the time it is harvested.

Because of this, our boxes follow the natural rhythm of the season. Early boxes may look different from peak summer boxes, and fall boxes will have their own harvest feel. That seasonality is part of what makes Wholesome Box fresh, real, and different.

Is your produce organic?
Our produce is not certified organic, but the Amish farmers we source from use growing practices that closely reflect organic principles.

Their farming methods are rooted in soil health, stewardship, and traditional growing practices. Many use manure from their own livestock, compost it carefully, and return it to the same land they grow on. This helps build strong, balanced, living soil — and healthy soil is the foundation for flavorful, nutrient-rich produce.

Do the farmers use herbicides or pesticides?
The Amish farmers we source from do not use herbicides.

They focus on healthy soil, crop rotation, cover cropping, beneficial insects, and careful field stewardship. They may use fungicides or pesticides only as a last resort when a crop is truly threatened, and those decisions are made carefully and selectively.

One reason we trust their approach is simple: the produce they grow for market is the same produce they grow to feed their own children and grandchildren.

Should I wash my produce?
Yes. We highly recommend washing all produce before use, whether it is local, organic, conventionally grown, or homegrown.

Wholesome Box produce is fresh from real farms and may have soil, field dust, or natural outdoor residue present. Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly under clean running water before preparing or eating them. For firm produce like melons, cucumbers, potatoes, or squash, a clean produce brush can be helpful. Avoid using soap, detergent, bleach, or household cleaners on produce.

Why does this matter?
We believe food grown in healthy soil, harvested in season, and handled with care simply tastes and feels different. Many customers tell us they can see, smell, taste, and even feel the difference in truly fresh, nutrient-dense produce.

5. Produce Care & Storage

Should I wash everything before storing it?
Usually, no. For best freshness, most produce should be stored dry and washed right before use. Extra moisture can cause some fruits and vegetables to spoil faster.

What should go in the refrigerator?
Tender or perishable items such as leafy greens, herbs, broccoli, cauliflower, beans, cut produce, and most delicate vegetables should be refrigerated.

What should stay out of the refrigerator?
Potatoes, sweet potatoes, dry onions, and garlic usually do best in a cool, dry, dark, well-ventilated place where air can circulate.

Should potatoes and onions be stored together?
No. Potatoes and sweet potatoes should be stored separately from onions and garlic. Even though they all like cool, dry, dark storage, keeping them together can encourage sprouting, moisture issues, or stronger onion/garlic flavor transfer.

For best results, keep potatoes and sweet potatoes in one basket or bin, and onions and garlic in a separate basket or bin with good airflow.

Any quick tips for making my box last longer?
Sort your produce and store items according to their needs soon after pickup or delivery. Keep refrigerated items cold, store onions and garlic separately from potatoes and sweet potatoes, and use delicate items like greens, berries, herbs, and ripe fruit first.

6. Pickup & Delivery

Where is pickup located?
Pickup is located at:

303 Henslee Drive
Dickson, TN

Pickup is every Friday from 5:00–6:00 PM. We park along Henslee Drive as close to the tree as possible.

We usually set up near the tree on the YMCA entrance side of the parking lot, whenever possible — not directly in front of the library entrance. Look for the table with the green tablecloth and Wholesome Box pickup setup.

As we grow, we’ll also be adding Wholesome Box signs to help customers find us more easily.

Can someone else pick up my order?
Yes. Someone else may pick up your order as long as they have your name or order confirmation.

What if I miss the pickup window?
As a courtesy, we will usually try to contact customers by phone or text if they have not arrived by around 5:30 PM. Because of this, please make sure to leave a good phone number when placing your order.

If we don’t hear from you by the end of the pickup window, any unclaimed boxes will be donated to help prevent waste and ensure the food is still put to good use.

Because each box is hand-selected and packed specifically for each customer, refunds cannot be issued for missed pickups.

Do you offer delivery?
Yes. Beginning in 2026, Wholesome Box offers delivery within a 15-mile radius of our Dickson pickup location.

Delivery fees are based on distance from our pickup location:

0–5 miles: $10
5–10 miles: $15
10–15 miles: $20

When will my delivery arrive?
Deliveries take place on Fridays, and timing will vary depending on the weekly route. We do our best to keep deliveries efficient and route-friendly so boxes stay fresh and the process remains sustainable.

Do you deliver outside the 15-mile radius?
Delivery outside our current 15-mile radius is not available at this time, but we are tracking interest for possible future delivery routes.

If you are outside our current delivery area and would love future delivery, feel free to reach out and let us know where you are located.

Can I switch from delivery to pickup?
Yes. You may switch from delivery to pickup before the weekly order cutoff on Thursday at 11:59 PM by emailing or texting us.

7. Payments

What payment methods do you accept?
All weekly box orders are processed securely through Shopify checkout, which accepts major payment methods.

When is payment due?
Payment is required at the time of ordering. Because boxes are hand-selected, sourced, and packed specifically for each customer, orders are not reserved until payment is complete.

Can I pay at pickup?
Weekly box orders must be paid for through the website before the order deadline.

Limited add-ons, such as jams, preserves, or extra seasonal produce, may sometimes be available at pickup and can be paid for separately when available.

At pickup, we can accept Venmo, Cash App, or exact cash for add-ons. Please note that we are unable to make change at pickup.

8. Quality & Freshness

What do I do if something in my box is damaged or spoiled?
We do our very best to hand-select fresh, high-quality produce each week. Because fresh produce is delicate and naturally perishable, we ask customers to check their boxes as soon as possible after pickup or delivery.

If something in your box does not meet our quality standards, please email or text us within 24 hours of pickup or delivery with a photo and a brief description of the issue.

Depending on the situation, we may offer a replacement item, store credit, or a refund for the affected item.

How fresh is the produce?
Wholesome Box produce is sourced fresh each week from our Amish farm partners and small family growers. Often, the produce we bring back has come in from the fields the very same day customers receive their boxes.

Because our boxes are built around what is fresh and ready that week, produce is selected for quality, flavor, freshness, and seasonal abundance.

9. Seasonal Availability & Breaks

Do you operate year-round?
No. Because Wholesome Box is built around locally grown, seasonal produce, we operate during the natural growing season.

Our season typically runs from late May through November, as harvest conditions allow. Exact start and end dates may vary depending on weather, harvest timing, and crop availability.

Are all products available all season?
No. Availability changes throughout the growing season. Early-season boxes, peak summer boxes, and fall boxes will each have their own harvest feel based on what the farms are growing and what is ready that week.

Apple boxes and other apple products are a fall seasonal offering and are only available when fresh regional apples are in season.

What happens if Wholesome Box needs to take a week off?
If we ever need to pause pickup or delivery because of severe weather, an emergency, crop availability, or another unexpected issue, we will post an update on our Facebook page and contact customers with existing orders.

Customers with existing orders will be offered either a refund or the option to move their order to the next available pickup or delivery week.

10. Sustainability & Packaging

Can I return my box to be reused?
Yes! We love when customers return clean boxes so they can be reused whenever possible.

Returning boxes helps reduce waste, supports a more eco-friendly operation, and helps us keep Wholesome Box as sustainable and affordable as possible.

Do I need to return my box?
No. Box returns are always appreciated, but never required.

How should I return boxes?
If you’d like to return your box, simply bring it back clean and dry during a future pickup.

11. Communication & Updates

Where do you post weekly updates?
We share weekly reminders, farm updates, seasonal announcements, and limited add-on availability on our Facebook page:

12. About Wholesome Box

What is Wholesome Box?
Wholesome Box is a seasonal produce box service created to bring fresh, real, nutrient-dense food from small Amish farm partners and local family growers directly to families in our community.

Each week during the growing season, we travel to Allen County, Kentucky, to hand-select produce from farms that value soil health, stewardship, traditional growing practices, and seasonal eating.

Wholesome Box began with a simple desire: to make it easier for families to bring truly fresh, high-quality produce into their homes without relying only on grocery-store options or long supply chains.

As a mom of five, I know how much it matters to feed our families well — and how hard it can be to find produce that feels fresh, nourishing, and full of life.

Wholesome Box is about more than fruits and vegetables. It is about connection:

🌱connection to local growers
🌱connection to healthier, more nourishing food
🌱 connection to the rhythm of the seasons
🌱 connection to a slower, more intentional way of living

Every box is packed with gratitude — for our farmers, for the land, and for the customers who support this small, local food system.

Thank you for being part of our story and for allowing us to bring the best of each season to your table.
